Lesson SOC 5
Task: Name people.
Prerequisites: S&L 6
Concept: Although similar in concept to identifying people in a group (SOC 4), this task emphasizes expressive (verbal) skills. The actual response does not need to be precise because accurate shaping for speech can take place in later exercises. The key is that some distinct verbalization that is unique for each person identified is produced.
Behavioral Objective: The student will identify another student who has been randomly selected by the teacher by stating that individual's name to a 90% accuracy level over 20 trials.
Materials: Any group activity that appears enjoyable to the student group.
Task Analysis:
1. Verify that the activity(ies) selected in the materials section are in fact enjoyed and desired by the group.
2. At a random point, stop the activity, identify a student by pointing, and ask the student being taught to name the person identified. If the student does not respond, provide the answer and ask the student to imitate that response (see the prerequisite)
3. Continue Step 2 for all students in the group who need help with this task.
4. Continue Step 3, reducing all verbal prompting and guidance until the objective is met.
