Compared with paracetamol, ibuprofen and
diclofenac have more potential for drug interaction.
Most interactions are due to the NSAID mechanism
of action, resulting in pharmacodynamic or
pharmacokinetic interactions. Potentiation of
nephrotoxicty with other nephrotoxic drugs (e.g. ACE
inhibitors, tacrolimus and diuretics) can occur
(Sturrock and Struthers, 1993; Passmore et al, 1989).
Reduced efficacy of antihypertensives such as betablockers,
ACE inhibitors and diuretics can also be seen
due to NSAID-induced water and sodium retention
