2.2. Photo-reactor
The photo-reactor was fitted with two 15W UVC lamps
(Philips G15T8) placed on opposite sides of a quartz sample
sleeve. The sample sleeve (44mm i.d., 1mm thick, and
470mm long, 500 ml volume) was situated 6 cm from the
lamps; reflectors were also fitted. The irradiation intensity
received by the sample was 1.8 106 mole of photon s1 (as
measured by potassium ferrioxalate actinometry (Murov
et al., 1993)). The reactor was cooled and the temperature was
maintained at 25 C. The contents of the quartz sleeve were
continuously stirred by bubbling gently with CO2-free
humidified air.
