Plants regularly face elevated temperature throughout
their multi-seasonal life cycle. Elevated global
temperature in the future will impact ecology and agriculture
and may prove to be a major factor limiting crop
production. A plant’s ability to tolerate elevated
temperatures, without prior conditioning, is referred to
as basal thermotolerance, whereas a plant’s adaptive
capacity to survive lethal high temperatures after preexposure
to sub-lethal temperatures is known as acquired
thermotolerance
