The agricultural sector is one of the important sectors in the Jordanian economy; and a tributary of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) The value of agricultural GDP for 2007 had come to (312.4) million dinars representing (2.8%) of GDP, the livestock contributes of (55%) thereof, the low contribution of this sector in GDP is attributed to the growth that has taken place in other sectors such as industry, services and real estate in addition to the high prices of production inputs; grazing lands are accounted for 90% of the area of the Kingdom; cultivated land has reached an area of (1.9) million acres distributed in field crops, vegetables and fruit trees; the size of the labor force in agriculture has reached (1.47) million workers.
