My uncle has been a police officer for more than thirty years. He stops a lot of bad things from happening and helps people to live peacefully in the community. His favorite way of solving problems between people is to negotiate. He is dedicated to his job. For example,he wakes up very early and goes to the police station before 7 a.m. He rarely takes holidays and often makes himself available for emergencies and is ready to go wherever he is needed.
Another reason he is my hero is he has volunteered to teach kids about drugs and violence for almost 10 years. He teaches about the harm drugs cause and what kids should say if someone tries to get them to try drugs. While I am sure many police officers do a good job, I think my uncle should get extra credit for his volunteer work. In addition, he sometimes sets up short demonstrations such as a basic training on self-defense to show people how to handle difficult situations. Last year, he was given the Outstanding Policeman Award for his work.
I often think about how lucky people are to have someone like him to inform us how to avoid harm. From my uncle’s story, I learned: It is important to think of other people besides our own family and Give the best of ourselves and help others as much as we can. If we could all be more like this, the world would be a much better place to live.
