This studyreportstheapplicationofexperimentalmixturedesignasatooltoevaluatetheeffectsof
different formulationsofmediacultivationininvertaseproductionby Aspergillus niger LBA 02under
solid statefermentation(SSF)usingwheatbran,soybeanmeal,cottonseedmealandorangepeelasagro-
industrial wastesubstrates.Invertaseproductionwascorrelatedwiththephysical–chemical parameters
of theagro-industrialwastes;itwasshownthatproteinandashcontentaswellashighapparentdensity
positivelyinfluences invertaseproduction.Synergisticeffectsbetweentheagro-industrialwasteswere
observed duringthefermentationprocess;however,inmostcases,soybeanmealpresentedthehighest
positiveeffectsoninvertaseproduction.After48hoffermentation,theformulationcontainingwheat
bran, cottonseedmealandorangepeelinequalproportionspresentedaninterestingsynergisticeffect,
reaching predictedvaluesofenzymeactivityhigherthan100 μg1. At72hoffermentation,themixture
of wheatbran,soybeanmealandcottonseedmealinequalproportionsreachedpredictedvalueshigher
than 140 μg1. Astatisticaltooldemonstratedanefficient strategyforenhancingenzymeproduction
and evaluatingsynergisticeffectsbetweenagro-industrialwastesfromvarioussources.Furthermore,this
process canalsobeappliedinstudiesregardingwasteprices,availabilityandprofitability becausethis
workpresentedalternativesfortheformulationofmediacultivationcontainingdifferentagro-industrial
wastesandtheeffectsonenzymeproduction.
