It is thought that the presence of hexane as a co-solvent played a major role in improving the transesterification efficiency. Similar results were also observed when using hexane as the co-solvent (Chen et al., 2012), and the reasons for the observation could be that using acetone as the co-solvent can reduce the time and temperature required for the reaction (Thanh et al., 2013).
