Guzzo (1998) has also questioned whether there is a difference between the two
concepts, in wondering whether "self-leadership is distinguishable from other, existing
psychological constructs such as the personality dimension of conscientiousness" (p.
214). Rost (1993) also claimed self-leadership was a "contradiction in terms" (p. 74).
Rost implied that leadership cannot be all about the individual, since leadership is
conditional on the multidirectional dynamic between leaders and more than one follower.
Both Guzzo (1998) and Rost (1993) cited the importance of the presence of multiple
followers for the practice of leadership to occur.
