One of the crucial technological barriers to the widespread use of hydrogen as an effective energy carrier is the lack of a safe, low-weight and low-cost hydrogen storage method with a high energy density (Harris et al., 2004; Crabtree et al., 2004). Hydrogen contains more energy on a weight-for-weight basis than any other substance. Unfortunately, since it is the lightest chemical element in the Periodic Table, it also has a very low energy density per unit volume
