Performance-based design, which is becoming more popular in many places, is adopted for buildings with
difficulties to comply with prescriptive codes [1]. Identifying design fires is one of the most critical tasks in a
performance-based fire safety design [6]. There are many methods used to characterize design fires [7].It is
important to select an appropriate and relevant design fire representative of the building considered. Heat release
rate for a design fire is described as the single most important variable in fire hazard [8]. It provides information on
heat output of the fire varying with time. Once the heat release rate is known, the fire resulting environment can be
calculated as time progresses. Then when the untenable conditions are to reach and the damage to the structure can
be estimated
