In the present study, the duration of the water deficit and light
intensity affected the volatile oil content of cassumunar ginger.
Fresh weights of rhizomes decreased while volatile oil contents
increased under conditions of high water stress. This result was
related to the reduction of rhizome size due to the loss of moisture,
resulting in the accumulation of volatile oil in the rhizome. Similarly,
Charles et al. (1990) reported that osmotic stress affected the
essential oil content and composition of peppermint.
