The temperature,populationdensityandfoodqualitythatare
conducivetorearinginindoorconditionsof P.saharicus tadpoles
weredefined forthe first time.Thesebiologicalconstraintsare
comparabletothoseofmorenortherlyspecies,namely P.ridibun-
dus. Webelievethatthisstudymaybethe first steptowards
further investigationintotheimpactofclimatechangeonthis
species, particularlyinthesouthernpartofitsareaofhabitation.
This mayalsobea first steptowardsthecontrolledcultureofthis
species andtoeventualrestockinginzoneswherethespeciesis
endangeredsoastoincreasepopulationdensityinnewwater
reservessuchasthemanyhilllakespresentinTunisia.
