Objectives
1. Demonstrate how a diode can be used to build a half-wave rectifier to convert an ac voltage to a dc voltage.
2. Compare the output voltage waveform with the input voltage waveform for a half-wave rectifier.
3. Calculate the average (dc) value of a half-wave rectified output voltage from the peak output voltage and compare the calculated value with the measured value.
4. Determine the dc output ripple frequency for a half-wave rectifier circuit.
5. Demonstrate the effect of diode barrier potential on the half-wave rectified peak output voltage.
6. Calculate the peak inverse voltage (PIV) across the diode in a half-wave rectifier circuit.
7. Demonstrate the purpose of the transformer.
