The discourses emerging on male sexuality
and subjectivity in heterosex, are in many
ways not surprising. Rather we are left with
the bitter taste of the pervasiveness of gender
inequality and hegemonic masculinity in
heterosexual relations. We cannot help asking:
where is the impact of critical thinking
and struggle in South Africa, which has been
part of popular discourse, both through liberation
and gender struggles, over a number of
decades? Men are admitting, with some hesitation,
that there is an imperative for change
but it is a small, marginal, moderate voice.
