Have you ever seen a rafflesia? It is the largest flower on Earth. A raffesia can be 1 metre across. There are more than twenty different kinds of rafflesia,and they are all very rare. They grow only in Indonesia,the Philippines and Malaysia. The rafflesia plant has no roots,stems or leaves. It takes the food and water it needs from its host plant,which is usually a forest vine. Rafflesia flower do not smell good. They smell like bed meat. This strange smell is very important because it attracts the insects that help the plant to reproduce. The flower stays open for one week. Then it dies,leaving behind a small pool of black liquid. Many years ago,rafflesia flower were sold in markets to people who bought them to make medicine. Now there are so few rafflesia plants that you will be very lucky if you ever see one
