This publication, summarizing some of
the most promising classroom research and
teaching innovations in New Mexico, is
published with the hope that it will spark
interest among other teachers who could
better meet the needs of students through
implementation of some of these practices.
Many exciting and productive instructional
approaches are being investigated by
teachers throughout our state, but they
remain unheralded because their efforts
are not well-publicized.We are rich in
New Mexico with the talents of creative,
caring, capable teachers. This compilation is
intended to increase our pool of knowledge
and facilitate communication among
educators motivated to improve the learning
of our students.
The action research projects that are
included in this publication were all
presented at the Annual Action Research
Conference in Taos during June 2007.
Presenters included teams of teachers who
received action research grants, teachers
who were conducting research as part of
their Master’s program and professors
conducting research on the effectiveness of
teacher research.
In 2006-2007, the Center for Teaching
Excellence (CTE) at Eastern New Mexico
University awarded Action Research grants
for 13 innovative teaching projects in the
public schools of New Mexico.CTE’s
primary aims are: 1) to support creative
teachers in their innovative endeavors
and 2) disseminate the results of effective
innovative projects to encourage other
teachers to explore adaptations in their own
settings. To strengthen the success of the
research, the CTE also supports the option
of the public school teams working together
with New Mexico university collaborators
to assist in assessment, content expertise,
research methodology and publication
results.
