It also teaches friendship in an unlikely source, a tiger. It brings together two very different souls that depend on each other for survival.
The movie quietly combines various religious traditions to enfold its story in the wonder of life. How remarkable that these two mammals, and the fish beneath them and birds above them, are all here. And when they come to a floating island populated by countless meerkats, what an incredible sequence Lee creates there
The part of story I liked best was when Pi discovers a seemingly charming island with a sinister secret. First I was imagine that it is a wonderful island and I think Pi will stay in this island for his whole life because it's an island made entirely of seaweed, full of meerkats and freshwater ponds. But Pi noticed that it has dead fishes rise to the surface of the ponds at night and the trees had these unique "fruits" on them with a tooth inside each one. And specifically the total number of teeth found in a human's mouth so as it would seem, the earth and plants on the island eventually would consume anyone that stayed there and didn't realize the danger that lied there. It's a carnivorous island. I read this part twice and I found that it is very symbolic. All that glitter is not gold. On the surface it may seem that the island is a good thing, full of food, water, and shelter. However we all know the disgusting truth.
