Our results also indicate that technological innovation slowed
down the rate of regional land use change. Finally, the demand for
land revenue is playing an increasingly significant role in the ways
in which local governments negotiate changes in land use.
The study has built a ground-specific conceptual framework of
land use change based on China's economic transition. More
scholarly efforts should be made to undertake further study on this
issue. It is promising to apply our framework in case studies of
broader geographical scope and other Chinese provinces.
