The importance and advantages of integrated approaches for operational and tactical planning in molded pulp industry, as the one proposed in this paper, are accrued specially in dynamic production systems where the mix and volume of products are very changing, and thinking in all possible molding patterns can be very difficult. The proposed approach can also be useful in large scale production system, where usually the number of molding patterns is too large to consider in advance, but all preset settings for the molding machine can be easily identified. However, in cases with a huge diversity of products or equipment where a greater number of molds can be attached, defining settings in advance for the molding machine might be nearly as extensive as defining molding patterns, and the performance of the proposed model could be limited.
