Firstly, an online survey of parents was carried out to
confirm the extent of tablet and mobile device use among
children and to get a more in-depth understanding of
children’s viewing behaviors, such as how, when and with
whom they generally watched TV and video content and
how this was chosen. The survey was completed by 497
parents ranging in age from 19 to 65+. The vast majority of
these (89.9%) being within the 25 to 54 yrs age range,
70.4% were female and 29.6% male. The following data is
based on the reported patterns and behaviors of at least
1,148 children under the age of 12.
One part of the survey set out to establish the extent to
which children currently had and used tablets and mobile
devices, and they regularly used a wide range of fixed and
mobile connected devices; 81.7% had a games console,
63.6% a mobile gaming device, 63.4% had a smartphone
and 50.7% had tablets while 35.2% had a Kindle (see
Figure 1). There was therefore a wide range of platforms
available for video consumption
