Toms shoes are available in 35 countries. Asian sales account for less than half, with South Korea being its biggest market in the region.
After expanding to Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines, Toms opened a store at Central Embassy last month
"Bringing Toms shoes to Southeast Asia and Thailand is very important because it's a very promising market. However, we want to grow our brand more than sales volume," Mr Birnbaum said.
The 100-square-metre Central Embassy shop sells shoes for people of all ages along with eyewear and beverages.
Vipop Tatiyamaneekul, managing director of Star Fashion, said Toms was the first new brand to be added to its fashion portfolio this year because consumers' purchasing power had not yet returned to normal after being hit by the political situation in the first half of the year.
"Consumer sentiment is better than in the first half. We will resume our investment in the last five months of this year but with more cautious moves," he said.
The company will launch Hurley, an American streetwear brand, in the coming months.
The first Hurley shop will be opened at the Square One retail project in Siam Square soon.
Sales of Star Fashion this year are expected to be about the same as last year at 2.5 billion baht.
