Each detailed checklist has several questions that address
eco-design requirements and numerous questions to aid designers
in considering eco-design best practices during design.
Eco-design requirements of particular note are the hazardous
substances targeted for ban in RoHS [2], i.e., cadmium, hexavalent
chromium, lead, mercury, polybrominated biphenyls
and polybrominated diphenyl ethers. Under the RoHS Directive
[2], Lucent can use an exemption for lead in solders for
network infrastructure equipment for switching, signaling,
transmission and network management. Lucent has also identified
a number of materials/substances that have been banned
for use in Lucent products. Examples of substances that are
banned from Lucent products are lead pigments in paint, asbestos
and PCBs.
