The high rates of resistance among L. garvieae found in this study are in agreement with other studies that have reported antibiotic resistant bacteria in milk from antibiotic treated dairy cattle in Kosovo (Sulejmani, Shehi, Hajrulai, & Mata, 2012). Sulejmani et al. (2012) analysed 127 samples of milk from Kosovo, and found that 70% contained antibiotic residues. This can be due to uncontrolled use of antibiotics which are easily accessible from most pharmacies in Kosovo.
