As a test, we tried making a call from a booth in Klong Toey to see how well the payphone worked. The sound that came out from the handset was low in volume, so One had to practically shout to communicate. And it took a few sheets of wet tissues to wipe off the dusty grime-and hopefully disinfect the machine-before we dared put the phone next to our face, or even pick it up with our bare hands.
