Logistics and Transportation
Although logistics and transportation are similar in many ways, they do differ in ways that can create confusion.
Logistics can be defined as the management of the flow of items or people from a point of origin to a destination. This flow is managed taking into consideration two factors - time and cost. Finding a balance between these two factors is crucial since there is always a trade-off between cost and time as often, for example, the shorter the delivery time, the higher the cost.
Transportation is the movement of people or items from one location to another. The similarity lies in the movement from one place to another but with transportation limited to being a step in logistics as the means to move people or items to the planned destination or to complete the
logistics goal.
