One may experience relapses and recurrences
of a MDD even though he/she undergoes treatment.2-5
A relapse has been viewed as a return of symptoms,
within the same episode, that occurs after treatment or
during a period of remission of the illness.6
Although
a recurrence involves the same signs and symptoms as
a relapse, a recurrence is recognized as a return of
symptoms or an onset of a new MDD, after one has a
period of recovery from a MDD episode.6
