"Good morning, everyone. It's nice to see you again. Well...uh, let me get started. Up to now, we've been dealing with lots of basic needs-registering, finding housing, buying books, and so on. But you've all lived here for a while now and you've begun to learn about 'the system,' so it's time to talk about some upcoming realities-exams.
"Many of your instructors have been giving quizzes since classes started. Quizzes are much shorter and simpler than exams, right? You can expect two major exams in most of you courses: a mid-term and a final exam.
"The two most common types of exams are objective tests and essay tests. Objective tests have traditionally been true/false or multiple choice. Individual instructors may use other types of questions, though. Essay tests involve writing paragraphs or short essays about a topic. In some cases, your instructors may tell you the topics in advance, or if you're lucky, they might give you a choice of topics to write about.
