Practical Exercise: The Quadrature and Phase-Locked Loop Detectors This practical exercise explores the operation and performance of the two detectors that use a phase comparing technique. Please Note: Part of the benefit of using the ANACOM 2 board is that we are able to compare the performance of five different deigns of detector. In order to make the comparison valid, the ANACOM 2 board must be set up in an identical manner in each of the practical exercises. To assist in this, it may be convenient to use the same ANACOM 2 board and test equipment in each case. Connect the ANACOM 2 board to the power supply as shown in Figure 110 below: POWER +12V SUPPLY ov -12V +12V ov -12V ANACOM 2 Figure 110 Ensure that the following initial conditions exist on the ANACOM 2 board: a) All the switched faults set to oFF. b) FREQUENCY preset in the Audio oscillator block set to minimum (fully counter-clockwise). c) AMPLITUDE preset in the Audio oscillator block set to maximum (fully clockwise) d) AMPLITUDE preset in the MixerlAmplifier block set to maximum (fully clockwise). e) VCO switch in the Phase-Locked Loop Detector block set to OFF. Switch on the power supply.
