Spray columns are widely used in industry, for mass or heat transfer operations like absorption, desorption, exothermic chemical reactions, etc. Currently, they are mainly dedicated for gas treatment or dust elimination. When they are used as gas–liquid contactors, pollutants are transferred from a gas phase to a liquid phase, within which chemical reactions can occur. Spray towers present many advantages:
•
high levels of gas treatment efficiency,
•
low pressure drops,
•
the possibility to work in a wide range of liquid to gas flow rate ratios,
•
low investment costs.
