Changes in land-use efficiency
Overall, the land-use efficiencies of input and output indicators
have changed at different rates. The manufacture of
electrical machinery and equipment increased more than all
other sectors (Table 4), with an almost 500-fold increase in output
efficiency. The land-use efficiency of transport equipment
manufacturing increased faster than that of the other sectors, but
its employee intensity decreased. A similar situation occurred in
the manufacture of materials and primary products and in food
and beverages. In contrast, in the manufacture of textiles and
apparel and in medicines, employee intensity increased.
