“I don’t know what to do,” sighed Ms. Gerber. “Our guests really enjoy the
lodge, but I don’t know how to get more people to come here. If I expanded
the number of cabins, or even added tent platforms, we could probably get
more groups and more support from travel agencies for the high season. But
we would still have periods when almost no one wants to come to the
Yucatán. I would like to shut down the hotel in three months of summer, but
nature would take over and it would cost too much to reopen. Ecotourism
seems to be a tougher sell than beach tourism. Maybe I should just try to
find a buyer for this property.”
“But where else can people find such a quiet and pristine area?”
asked the new manager, Mr. Voggensperger. “Maybe we are just a few years
ahead of the market for this area. It will be successful eventually.
