An examination of Table 3 revealed that, when initial differences were taken aboard by use of
ANCOVA with KCPE mathematics scores as covariate, the differences between male and
female students on achievement were not statistically significant F(1,171)=2.78,p=0.098,
p>0.05.This implied that use of STAD CL removes gender differences in learners`
mathematics achievement .
A further analysis of post test MAT scores using a t-test and ANCOVA was carried out to
compare male and female students` mathematics achievement in the control groups. This was
done to determine whether teaching and learning through the conventional teaching methods
had similar achievement effect as teaching through STAD, CL strategy. Table 4 shows the t -
test results.
