3.2. The samples
Before conducting the survey, identifying the sample size is important to ensure the validity of the study.
According to the data obtained from the Petaling Jaya City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya, MBPJ), it was believed that a typical household in SS2 consists of five people.
Considering the 152 houses recorded in this area, multiplication of these two factors resulted in a population of 760. As seen in Appendix (Table A.2), the sample size was determined when the number of the population was identified.
A sample size of 256 was required according to Table A.2. The sample size table is formulated based on the formula shown in Eq. 1 (Krejcie and Morgan, 1970):
