This study measures the extent of homesickness among freshmen, how homesickness is experienced, and how it affects the students' lives. From a sample of 304 students, 68.8% report experiencing homesickness. Of the total population, 57.5% of males were homesick, and 75.4% of females were homesick. Approximately 41% of the students were experiencing homesickness for the first time. Homesickness lasted more than one week for two thirds of the students and more than eight weeks for 18.2% of them. The study also examines the components of homesickness. These findings suggest ways to help new college students overcome homesickness.
