Size of Travel Party
Size of travel party has been found to affect the likelihood that tourists will seek information about hurricane evacua- tions on social media during travel (Cahyanto and Pennington-Gray 2012). More specifically, tourists with smaller travel parties have been found to be more likely to seek hurricane evacuation information via social media than tourists in larger travel parties (Cahyanto and Pennington- Gray 2012). This is likely related to the observation that indi- viduals tend to take preventive action during crises only after observing the preventive actions of others (Drabek 2000). Since those with smaller travel parties do not have as many individuals to observe, they may be turning to social media to fill this gap.
