The people in the central region of Thailand, including four provinces in the east region are Chonburi (chon-bu-ree), Chanthaburi (jan-ta-bu-ree), Trat (trard) and Rayong (ra-yorng) still believe in the general traditions as in other regions, but some special details are added such as Songkran Festival.
In general, the people have to pour scented water on Image of Buddha, on the hand of old people whom they respect and splash water to one another. However, in the central region there are several places, especially for the Thai people with Mon or Peguan race, the way for them to celebrate Songkran's Day is very different. That is, in the morning they give alms, and at about 11 a.m. they offer dry-cooked rice in cold water (to called "kharw-chae (ข้าวแช่)" eaten with condiments). Then, they hold a fish procession to bring the fish to release in the rivers or the canals.
After that, they play a pitch-and-toss game with the snuffbox bean called "sa-bar (สะบ้า)", sing as well as dance in the style called "morn-sorn-par (มอญซ่อนผ้า)" and "mae-sree-roern (แม่ศรีเรือน) or a Household Wife".
In some places the people hold their processions in order to compete with one another so as to build up a stupa that is make of sand in a temple. As for the Thai people with Mon or Peguan race in Pathumthani (pa-tum-tar-nee) Province , they build up the shrine of the household to propitiate the spirits by sacrifice to their ancestor ghosts and household ones. In Trat Province the people are of a medium to be in communion with a buffalo spirit, a winnowing basket spirit and play a pitch-and-toss game with the snuffbox bean.
