Firstly i went to the centre of town where Si Mueang Central Park is located. It was originally an execution ground for prisoners but was later rebuilt as a public park. It has gardens, rivers, exercise grounds and the Phra buddha Angkhirot statue which is housed in the Buddha hall at the front of the park. This park was a lot smaller than other public parks i've seen but was still nice to walk around and relax. After here i headed to Laem Son (Cape Son) which is where the beach road ends in the district of Klaeng. Here was a nice scenic area which was home to Wat (wait for it) Sommuttithepthapanaram and H.T.M.S Prasae battleship. After here i headed back the same way stopping off at the occasional beach to watch the sunset. As i had the bike i had a little explore around the city that evening and hit up a couple of night markets.

The following day i headed east to another beach road. This begins at one of Rayong's nicest beaches called Hat Mae Ramphueng. From here i followed the beach road to the Rayong Aquarium (Entry 10B/30B children/adults both thai and farang) which was great to walk around and even had a nice chart of sharks found in Thai waters. Out of the main 4 man eaters (Great white, Tiger, Bull and Oceanic white tip shark) Thailand has 3, excluding the Great White. Though Oceanic white tips are only found in deep, deep ocean and the chances of seeing a Bull or Tiger shark near the shoreline... well, apparently you have 15 times more chance of a coconut falling on your head. Also from the Aquarium you have great views of Rayong's famous island, Koh Samet.

So, Rayong as a whole was a nice place. The eastern side was definatly more scenic and the beaches of Mae Ramphueng and Laem Mae Phim were easily the best of the bunch. Riding along beach road and through the pine trees of Suan Son was both a memorable and amazing experience.
