Productivity and consistency are greatly improved by features such as style sheets and master pages. Paragraph and character style sheets expedite the styling of text. Handlines, cross-hands, standfirsts, body text and captions, for example, can each be assigned a paragraph style sheet comprising all aspects of type formatting. Changes can then be made globally by amending the relevant style sheet. Each style sheet can also be ‘based on’ another, making it even easier to change, for example, the typeface used throughout a publication. Character styles can be applied to individual letters or word. As part of a style sheet’s options, text can be locked to a fixed ‘baseline grid’, ensuring lines of type in different frames are aligned.
