Blowholes
The blowhole ratio, calculated by steps (1) to (3) below, shall be 35% or less. However, in the case of zinc galvanized steel sheets or plates and similar materials, if the required value can not be satisfied, discussions shall be held with the Material Engineering Department and the affected Design Departments.
The blowhole ratio is measured by the procedure shown below.
(1) Determine a measurement line which spans the 25 mm of a weld bead where there are the largest number of blowholes, and which intersects the most blowholes within this section.
(2) Find the total length of all blowholes intersected by this line. (3) Calculate the blowhole ratio.
