The non-parametric Kolmogorov–Smirnov two-sample test indicated that many of these meteorological parameters are different for avalanche days when compared to non-avalanche days (Table 3).
Of the parameters that were statistically significant, most of the parameters were significant at the P b 0.001 level.
Only wind direction was not significant at this level, but was still significant at the P b 0.025 level.
We also tested the date field and found that this was not significantly different using this test (P N 0.1).
This confirmed that the avalanche and non-avalanche days were being selected from the same time periods (as described in
Methods).
