Grower perceptions of the economic feasibility of specific
practices were mixed. It is likely that the small number of variables
correlated with farm scale indicates that the problem is not the lack
of awareness of the general concepts of GAPs among specific scales,
but rather growers at all farm scales need information that is salient
to their operations. These findings and the scale-related variance
from the ANOVA point to common threads in the discussion of
barriers for small and medium-scales growers that are shaped by
perceptions reported in interviews, which include:
Inflexibility of a standard that does not adapt to local farming
conditions.
