Our survey instrument was not developed based on the constructs of any particular
theory of adoption or diffusion. Future research should also look at RFID adoption from
the perspective of one or more of the well known theories of adoption found in the IS
literature. A number of frameworks and theories exist within the innovation theory
and IT adoption literature that could be used as a theoretical basis for RFID adoption.
For example, one fundamental theory for the study of technology adoption is innovation
diffusion theory (IDT) (Rogers, 1995).
