The industrial sector is regarded as the engine of economic
growth, while the government’s role is to facilitate innovation and
development by eliminating any problems or barriers that arise
within the business environment. The survey findings reported in
this paper have provided useful guidance to industry and government
on the policy areas that require more attention in order to
foster the sustainable development of the biomass renewable energy
industry in Malaysia. The survey revealed that therewere three
major barriers to the development of the oil palm biomass renewable
energy industry in Malaysia, namely: irregular resource supply
and fuel supply price speculation, the cost of the new biomass to
energy technologyand the lack of grid connections
