percentage was confirmed in the brain. Thus, the percentages of
bacterial translocation significantly differed among the three
groups (Table 1).
Moreover, the number of translocated S. suis was quantified,
revealing a significant difference between the healthy mice and
either the acute alcoholism or the cirrhosis groups in both blood
and brains (Fig. 2A and B). The S. suis number did not differ between
the alcoholism and cirrhosis groups.
