In this work,
the Cl− concentration in the shoot was roughly the concentration of Na+ plus K+ in GR4 (Table 2).
How- ever, in IR36 and CSR10, the concentration of Cl− was lower than that of Na+ plus K+ , suggesting other anion(s) were balancing the cations. In barley, Britto et al. (2004) indicated low potential for Cl− to act as a counterion to hyper-accumulating NH4 + , which might suggest other anion(s) were involved.
