A total of 14 people were declared dead since typhoon Goni, (locally call “Ineng”) unleashed its fury over the northern part of Luzon, according to Manila Bulletin.
Most of the casualties are in Benguet, with 10 people reported dead. The 11th fatality was reported in Pinili, Ilocos Norte when a man was hit by a fallen mango tree while driving his motorcycle.
It was confirmed that 17 people were missing when a landslide occurred in a mining site in Mankaya in Benguet.
The search and rescue mission for them was temporarily halted on Saturday afternoon due to bad weather condition.
The continuous rains forced some 32,600 people to flee their homes and seek refuge in safer place. Of the figure, 13,159 people are still staying in various evacuation centers while the rest are staying with their relatives.
National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports revealed that there are 36 roads, 18 national and eight local roads, are not passable due to landslide and flooding in the three regions of Northern Luzon—Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.
At least 17 national and local roads previously reported to be not passable are now accessible.
The initial assessment revealed that the damage to agriculture and infrastructure is now at P125 million, mostly at the infrastructure with P121 million while the rest are in agriculture.
