Group 2 consisted of fi ve Ward/Unit Nursing
Staff. This group was deemed important to see if
those issues identifi ed by the NUM group were
also experienced by those staff who reported
directly to the NUM. Participant eligibility was
restricted to those Staff Nurses working for a minimum
of 6 months. The researcher considered
6 months an acceptable timeframe for a new nurse
to integrate into the ward/unit and to have had
some meaningful experience with HRM issues.
All fi ve participants represented different wards/units and each reported to one of the NUMs who
had participated in the earlier interview.
