This study demonstrated that the use of real-time teledermatology helped to establish the final diagnosis in 43.2% of patients and treatment plan in 67.0% of patients and the use was associated with changes in patients' diagnoses in 19.3% of cases and treatment plans in 9.1% of cases. Although differences in study settings, skin conditions, trial methodology, type of teledermatology and outcomes might limit the comparison between this study and other studies, the results of this study are consistent with previous studies that reported changes in the patients' diagnoses and treatment plans as a result of telemedicine consultations. One study that conducted a retrospective review of 223 individual telemedicine patient medical records showed that telemedicine consultations were found to result in changes in diagnoses in 48% of the cases, changes in treatment therapy in 81.6% of the cases, and clinical improvement in 60.1% of cases.
