Well, the answer is not the same everywhere in the world. For example, in lraa and Algeria, a typical family has seven members living together, including the two parents, three or four children, and at least one grandparent. In fact, these countries have the largest families in the world. Where are the smallest families? They are in the Scandinavian countries of Denmark and Sweden, with an average family size of only 2.2 people. And families in Japan and the U.S. are not much bigger. They have an average size of three people. Here are some other interesting American family facts: 40% of all American families have only a husband and wife living together with no children, and 30% of all families in the U.S. are single-parent families. What does all this mean? Families are changing and perhaps we need to change our ideas of what a typical family is.
